Briefing about the book: A theoretical volume which provides a comprehensive mechanism for assessment. Based on the principles of systems approach, an analysis of the concepts of evaluation, and education has been made with reference to teaching, and learning in the context of language and literature. The interrelatedness that exists among them has been highlighted in terms of their contents, methods, and purposes. The constituent factors of evaluation viz., what to be assessed, how to go about it, and why to do this, etc., have been explained in detail with scores of illustrative examples. The componential details that could serve as General Frame of Reference(GFR) for syllabus framing, and test construction. They have been compiled and presented as a concept based continuum of graded components under the respective sections. The mechanism of integrating the contents, methods, and purposes for item setting towards assessment of mastery of language & literature, and subsequently the personality acquired as a result of their learning (perceived to be the alround growth) has been shown in the next section. A blue print for an application programme which involves the creation of a huge data base and retrieval system has also been suggested at the end, as part of developing a centralised mechanism called MILES to meet the evaluation requirements from various organisations in the country and that of from abroad with reference to Indian languages. Based on this frame work, more than 25 volumes of materials have been brought out, mostly as practical realisation in various Indian languages |
