Concept based Continuum of
Graded Syllabi
Language & Literature

Consists of seven syllabi (in bilingual form) developed as working models meant for primary, upper primary, secondary, higher secondary, graduate, post-graduate, and research levels of education. Though the structure of formal education being followed in this country is similar in terms of number of years, it is not the case in respect of academic quality especially in language education.

As a result, maintaining parity in academic quality across the courses in various Indian languages at any given level of education becomes unviable for the purposes of certification, admission,

employment, etc., under the union government. Hence, a common frame of reference has been evolved by formulating a concept based continuum of graded syllabi for language & literature, after conducting a field study involving about 3000 students and 250 teachers across 7 levels of education in Tamilnadu and Pondichery.

This, after extending to other languages, would facilitate maintain comparability among the courses of the same grade in various Indian languages, in terms of content inputs, and consequential outputs as perceived by various Taxonomies of Educational Objectives. It would also help to have a provision for an

intra language comparability across the courses within a State or UTs, and inter-language comparability across the languages of the country at any given level of education, without however affecting the individuality of the language concerned.

This in turn, would help to derive a continuum of compartmentalized proficiency expected to be achieved at every level of education, thus paving way for giving a concrete shape to the hither-to unstated assumptions by eliminating the age old problem  of  content  overlapping  among  the  language  courses  at

various levels. This series of materials will be useful to the educational planners at the national level, members of the BOS in universities / autonomous colleges, and school education boards of different systems.

Note : These are unpublished working models
